Lipid Processing Connected to Scarring Hair Loss

Pratima Karnik, PhD, Assistant Professor of Dermatology at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, recently led a team that found a link between a defect in lipid processing and cicatricial alopecia, a rare and painful hair-loss disorder. The team discovered that treating patients with drugs that enhance lipid processing relieved clinical symptoms of the condition.
